miMichigan: Report from Hell was released way back in the days of PlayStation 2, long before Grasshopper made Killer7, No More Heroes or Lollipop Chainsaw.

You play as an inexperienced cameraman trying to cover a deep fog that turns people into fleshy monsters.

Viewed through a camera lens, you must decide whether to help the people you meet or capture everything on film as evidence.

Truly a game ahead of its time, yet one that no one ever talks about.

9. Kororinpa

Kororinpa is similar to Super Monkey Ball but with soft fluffy felt friends. That means it’s more obvious that you’re moving the field and not the ball.

The level design really shines here, with swirling maze-style paths and a ruthless difficulty curve.

Kororinpa is clever at balancing its challenging gameplay with a delightfully whimsical soundtrack.

A game that really showcased the power of the Wii.

8. Sweet Fuse: By your side

Originally released for the PlayStation Portable, you’ll take part in a series of deadly games set in theme park attractions.

Oddly starring Keiji Inafune, creator of MegaMan, you face off against Count Hogstein in this Danganronpa-style puzzle adventure.

The hot-headed protagonist reaches a breaking point with her teammates and you must choose between staying calm or simply exploding.

Perfect for fans of mystery and romance.

7. Croc: Legend of the Gobbos

The oldest game on the list, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos is a PlayStation-era character 3D platformer.

Croc, the adorable crocodile with a backpack, is often forgotten by Spyro or Crash and must embark on an adventure to rescue the fluffy gobbos.

It starts off deceptively. Even once you get used to the tank controls and camera, the levels can be difficult.

But you will never forget his adorable screams. Wahoo!

6. Asura’s Wrath

A fighting game in many ways, Asura’s Wrath plays more like a series of bombastic anime cutscenes stitched together.

Because each chapter opens and closes with an intro and credit sequence, fans called it an interactive anime.

Gameplay can be third-person action, on-rail shooter, or a series of quick-time events.

Since then there hasn’t been a comparable game.

5. Light Spitter

While tower defense is a long-standing game genre, the tower is rarely a single muscular Viking.

Firing your namesake spear of light with pinpoint precision becomes a skill you must master.

The difficulty increases along with the pounding soundtrack and hypnotic graphics.

Not for the faint of heart, but not to be missed either.

4. Puppeteer

Set on the stage of a puppet theater, Puppeteer is an adorable 2D platformer where you use fabric scissors to traverse the stages.

Each set piece is designed to appear as if it were handcrafted. This adds to the wonder of the world.

The doll loses its head with every hit, but luckily it can make a new one from lots of materials lying around.

A game sadly lost to the PS3 library.

3. Snipper clips

So few games came out around the Switch’s launch, you’d think we’d remember them all.

However, the cooperative 2D puzzle game Snipperclips was quickly forgotten despite its entertaining looping gameplay.

Two players team up and must cut the other into shape to solve the puzzles.

It was good enough to get an updated version, but was forgotten all too quickly.

2. The Story of the Little King

Pikmin fans will recognize the gameplay, but Little King’s Story takes a fun new twist on the genre.

As your city grows, you will have more citizens to train and recruit to help build the city and fend off invaders.

Along the way, various princesses will help you with special abilities that can change the flow of battle.

Choosing who to marry is the hardest decision of all.

1. Tower fall

Developer Maddy Thorson is best known today for her smash hit Celeste, but she’s made many games before that.

Towerfall is a fast-paced survival game that lets you take on hordes of incoming enemies alone or with a friend.

Not only do you have to deal with a bow and limited arrows, but the screen surrounds it without borders.

An amazing game overshadowed by another from Thorson.
