A Japanese restaurant is set to open in a new £130million residential and commercial development.
The Circus Street site in Brighton includes 142 affordable private housing, 450 student accommodation, 30,000 sq ft of office space, and food, beverage and retail units.
It will create more than 400 jobs over the next ten years and bring a gross value of £200m to the local economy.
Later this year, Wolfox will open a Japanese restaurant called Fumi on the ground floor of The Office area of the development.
It will offer coffee and breakfast during the day before turning into an upscale Japanese restaurant in the evening.
Wolfox also runs plant-based Japanese restaurant Kusaki on New England Road, Brighton.
Wolfox Executive Chef Fabio Lauro said: “Our outstanding Japanese chef will craft a mixed meat, vegetarian and vegan menu, creating something special and unique for this exciting new space.
“Despite the popularity of Japanese cuisine, there is currently no fine dining experience in the city and we are creating a place where people can enjoy special occasions and elegant dinners inspired by nature and seasonality that will be a real treat Japanese gourmets.”
The team is expected to begin furnishing the space next month, focusing on using sustainable produce and local, seasonal ingredients where possible.
The development of the former fruit and vegetable market site was led by U+I and Brighton and Hove City Council.
Rob Sloper, Development Director at U+I, said: “We are delighted to welcome Wolfox as the latest in a list of premium brands and companies who will help us create an exciting, innovative and fun atmosphere in the new Circus Street -Create community.”
The 1,130 square meter café White Cloud Coffee will soon open its doors on Circus Street as well.
Meanwhile, technology company Hyve has signed a lease for the top two floors of The Office on Circus Street, which has six main office floors.
There is space for outlets and shops on the ground floor.
The building is environmentally sustainable and was built to “improve the well-being of residents”.
