“The Deathly Hallows- Part I” is easily the darkest movie in the series. Harry begins to learn things about his mentor, Professor Albus Dumbledore (Michael Gambon), who makes him rethink his past. Harry makes an important discovery about the existence of three powerful items: the Deathly Hallows.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione learn about the existence of the Elder Wand, Resurrection Stone, and Cloak of Invisibility from Xenophilius Lovegood (Rhys Ifans). It was a tense sequence, as Harry knew they had very little time to process this information and come up with a plan. Director David Yates made an unusual stylistic choice in this scene that made the franchise one of its most unsettling moments.
When Hermione read aloud “The Tale of the Three Brothers,” the prophecy was brought to life in a disturbingly animated sequence. It was a strange way of expressing the corruptible nature of power and the danger of the Elder Wand. This scene raises the stakes of the franchise. If Voldemort possessed this weapon, what hope did the heroes have?
