A man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter after another man fell off a boat off the Dorset coast.

David Haw, 24, fell overboard from a rigid inflatable boat in Poole Harbor in the early hours of Monday morning.

A search is underway for Mr Haw from Sussex involving the RNLI, HM Coastguard, Police and Dorset Search and Rescue.

Dorset Police said a 19-year-old man from the Southampton area has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and remains in police custody.

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour said: “Our inter-agency search efforts to locate David are ongoing and there will continue to be a police presence in the port and surrounding areas.

“We continue to keep David’s family informed of all developments and are doing everything we can to support them during this difficult time.

Mr. Haw is described as white, 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a slim build and short mousy brown hair.

He also has a short beard and bushy eyebrows.

In an earlier statement, Chief Inspector Darren Harris said yesterday: “Coordinated search and rescue efforts by multiple agencies have been ongoing since the initial report of David’s disappearance.

“Police, Coast Guard, RNLI and DorSAR volunteers have conducted extensive searches in and around the port.

“We will continue our efforts to find David.

“If anyone has seen David or a man fitting his description since he went missing, or has any information that may assist our search, please contact us urgently.”

Poole Regatta said on its website that yacht racing had been abandoned and the awards ceremony had also been canceled due to the incident.

It had been the last day of the event, which took place over the bank holiday weekend.
