A couple found a 60-year-old half-eaten McDonald’s meal while remodeling their bathroom.
Rob and Gracie Jones were doing some restoration work on their home in Crystal Lake, 50 miles north of Chicago, USA.
After breaking through a wall, they found a mysterious bag and inside were two burger wrappers and a packet of fries that weren’t ready yet.
The couple said the chips were very crispy and brown but not spoiled, despite being made over six decades ago.
The couple have now been able to capitalize on the old meal after saying they would like to sell their find to the right buyer.
“Rob was in the bathroom replacing the old toilet paper holder,” Gracie told CNN.
“As he pulled the lamp out, he noticed a rolled up piece of fabric that was bunched up in the wall.
“At this point we’re both looking at each other and wondering if we’d call the police because we just uncovered evidence from a crime scene!”
“We were very relieved to have just found the old McDonald’s bag.
“We saw the fries and were like, ‘This is unreal.’ How on earth are those fries still in that bag and how are they preserved so well?! It was wild.”
They realized the food was from the ’50s after researching the logo on the bag, which featured Speedee, the fast-food chain’s original mascot.
The symbol was in use between 1955 and 1961, they discovered.
The very first McDonald’s restaurant opened its doors 82 years ago in San Bernardino, California, with burgers on the menu for about 11 pence.
It quickly became one of the most popular fast food chains in the world, serving around 68 million customers every day.
Richard and Maurice McDonald opened the very first McDonald’s restaurant in San Bernardino, California in 1940, and things looked very different – including the name.
The original menu was much simpler to allow orders to be prepared more quickly, and featured quirky food descriptions, including an “all beef hamburger,” “tempting cheeseburger,” “triple thick shakes,” and “golden fries.”
Customers could also purchase a “thirst-quenching cola”, “delicious root beer”, “steaming hot coffee”, a “full-bodied orange drink” and “refreshing cold milk” with their meal.
The brothers quickly sold 14 franchises, 10 of which became restaurants – not counting their original location in San Bernardino.
The first McDonald’s restaurant in Britain opened in Woolwich, south London, in October 1974.
