2 ‘weird’ Omicron symptoms

OMICRON is still rife in the UK, with thousands catching bugs every day.

This is a milder disease, especially when vaccinated, but some strange and uncomfortable symptoms can still appear.

The UK’s first official report revealed the risk of being hospitalized with Omicron in a stabbing condition was between 50 and 70 per cent lower than with Delta.

Health officials have repeatedly said Covid boosters protect against Omicron and offer the best chance of weathering the pandemic.

The Sun’s Jabs Army campaign is helping to get vital additional vaccines in British arms to avoid the need for any new restrictions.

Two strange symptoms have appeared for the sufferers are red eyes or conjunctivitis and hair loss.

Eye trouble can appear with other symptoms, within about two days for Omicron, and hair loss is more likely to occur near the end of the illness.

Based on Health line, the virus enters the body’s cells through receptors for an enzyme called angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) by tricking it into thinking it’s an enzyme and not Covid.

ACE2 receptors are found in parts of the eye, such as the retina and the epithelial cells lining the whites of the eye and eyelids.

And although hair loss is not a typical symptom of Covid, according to American Dermatology Association Hair loss is quite common after high fever.

Hair loss, also known as telogen effluvium as it is medically known, occurs when more hairs than usual enter the “shedding” phase of the hair growth life cycle.

According to the research to date, Omicron causes milder disease than the Delta variant did – especially for vaccinated people.

Experts around the globe have also highlighted at least 8 early warning signs of Omicron that you shouldn’t ignore.

These manifestations are thought to tend to appear rapidly and fairly early in illness, from about two days after exposure.

They seem to last about five days, but can of course go faster and some can last.

If you have any Covid symptoms, you should go for a PCR test and self-isolate until the results are available.

Common early warning signs of Omicron include:

  • Throat is scratched
  • Lower back pain
  • Runny / stuffy nose
  • Headache
  • Tired
  • Sneezing
  • Night sweats
  • Body aches

They are significantly different from the classic triad of Covid symptoms of cough, fever, and loss of taste or smell.

It comes as the Prime Minister insists Britain can “surmount the wave of Omicrons”, despite staff falling ill with traffic and schools.

As a record 218,000 new Covid cases were confirmed yesterday, Boris Johnson ruled out any new restrictions.

He warned that further restrictions would damage “people’s life chances, mental health and economy”.

But he accepts the coming weeks will be “challenging” and that “some services will be disrupted”.

It comes as the isolation related to Omicron sees rail services canceled, trash cans overflow and schools affected.

An estimated one million Britons were out of work yesterday as the UK’s daily infection rate rose above 200,000 for the first time.
