3 Months After Acquisition – How is Crowfall doing?

earlier this week, Crowfall’snew’ development studio Monumental has released some information about a new Dregs experience that’s going down the drain. That was clear crow fall has been fighting an uphill battle for a while, but under Monumental, fans expected some growth. With a new Dregs campaign announced last week, let’s take a quick look back at what crow fall since the takeover.

It was announced back in December that Monumental had taken over, not just the ArtCraft team behind it crow fall, but also all intellectual property. ArtCraft President Gordon Walton praised Monumental CEO Monty Kerr for explaining that the new development team wants to help crow fall reach its full potential. Obviously, it takes time to make huge changes to a live game, and in the year in review released just days after the acquisition, the team hinted at an upcoming roadmap and expansion of the development team.

Almost two months passed before the Executive Producer Update came out, which detailed some COVID-related delays in communications and also stated a willingness to shut down the game to speed up their development and then restart the game at a later date, but im same breath, they also touted over 110,000 players who have “always access” and they encourage newcomers to try the 10-day free trial if they’re interested in the game.

We appreciate those of you who play Crowfall and give us tremendous feedback on the new releases. It would be easier for the team to close the game for several months and restart later, but we take our commitment to bringing the game to you seriously and really want your feedback as we make additions and changes to the game. Well over 110,000 people have constant access to Crowfall, and anyone can take a 10-day free trial. So if you want to be part of the development of Crowfall, we really appreciate your participation.

The Dregs campaign and several changes to it were also teased during the update, and now, just a few weeks later, the team has shared some details about the new Dregs experience, which is “coming soon”. The detailed post details what players can expect for the 7.7 campaign along with the two upcoming campaigns in the 7.8 and 7.9 versions. The long list of changes is intended to make the campaigns a bit shorter and more exciting for the players. Whether this will deliver what players are looking for remains to be seen.

Delivering on their promises, however, seems to be the main focus of what Monumental has set out to do. Thomas Blair has revealed a long list of changes planned for Update 7.7 aimed at doing what he feels ArtCraft hasn’t done throughout their development – living up to their claims about campaigns.

Ever since Kickstarter, a key brand aspect of Crowfall has always been “Campaigns you could win!” and “Campaigns would always be different!”. At one point, we actually dubbed the idea of Crowfall campaigns as an “MMO experimentation machine” where each campaign is wildly different. Remember the claims of “No Elves,” “No Metal,” or “Restart” campaigns? Unfortunately, we didn’t do any of them justice.

The post goes on to detail “buttons” that the team tunes to make campaigns more enjoyable. While much of what we’ve seen in 2022 focuses on the campaign aspects of crow fall Many are still awaiting a roadmap, which they hope will include more features on the list the team hopes to address. As a hardcore PvP game focused on guild vs. guild, it makes sense that the Dregs campaign would receive a lot of end-game love, but the niche playstyle and difficulty of getting into the campaigns weighed on new players Monumental, no doubt.

Last year the topic crowfall Population was a major concern, and while the team denied that the population was shrinking, in the end the rumors seemed to be true as layoffs plagued the ArtCraft team and new player initiatives began just before Monumental acquired the game. After 3 months there is not much to see of the post-monumental acquisition crow fall team – at least we haven’t seen that yet. While it’s highly unlikely that the population has increased since very little has been changed to the live game, the development team’s recent announcement shows that they haven’t given up crow fall and hopefully these new changes can meet fans’ expectations.
