38 UK countries are BANNED from entering due to Covid rules

BRITS looking for a winter break will require pre-boarding checks as Covid travel restrictions remain in 38 countries around the world.

We’ve rounded up countries that have banned Britons, or are forcing people arriving from the UK into long quarantines when they get there.

Britons are prohibited from traveling to Australia, unless they are on a specific list of exemptions, such as if you are the immediate family of an Australian citizen.


According to the UK foreign office, entry and exit at Benin border crossings is limited to ‘extreme necessity’.


Bhutan’s borders are closed to all foreign nationals, including Britons.

The government of Bhutan has yet to specify when the country will reopen to foreign visitors.


Entry to Brunei is severely restricted.

On December 14, Brunei announced that Britons would be allowed to enter the country for non-essential travel.

However, that was dropped on December 22 due to the spread of Omicron in the UK.

Foreign nationals can only enter Brunei for essential travel.


Britons can enter Chile, but proof of vaccination must be confirmed by the Chilean government – which can take up to 30 days.


Chinese authorities have suspended all direct flights from the UK.

It has yet to be announced when this rule will be reviewed.

Falkland Islands

Tourists are not allowed to visit the Falkland Islands, including via cruise ships.

Friends of the resident can visit if they are sponsored by an islander who is in the Falklands at the time of arrival.

They will be quarantined for up to 14 days.


France suggested it UK travel ban to be eased soon.

Currently, only British people traveling for necessary reasons can visit France, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not.

Travelers for an essential reason, for example, to see a dying loved one, must present a negative PCR result or an antigen test performed within 24 hours of departure.

Anyone arriving from the UK must provide contact details, including the address they will be staying, to French authorities.

Hong Kong

On January 8th Hong Kong imposes two-week travel ban on Britons.


International passengers arriving from the UK who have been or have been transiting through the UK in the previous 14 days are prohibited from entering Indonesia.

Official delegates and foreign diplomats serving in Indonesia are exempt.


British nationals without a current status of residence are not allowed to enter Japan for any purpose, except in exceptional circumstances.

British people residing in Japan will be refused entry if they come from certain African countries.


Entry into Malaysia for British nationals is prohibited.

Certain exemptions may apply, including Britons with permanent resident status and those married to Malaysian citizens.


Morocco bans all visitors from the UK back in October, less than a day’s notice to tourists.

The Moroccan government has extended the suspension of all flights and ferry services in and out of Morocco until January 31.


All travelers from the UK, regardless of vaccination status or possessing a negative test result, are required to self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival in the Netherlands.

This time can be reduced to five days if the person receives a negative test result from the Dutch authorities on Thursday.

New Zealand

The New Zealand border is currently closed to most arrivals, including Britons.

You can visit New Zealand while borders are closed if you are deemed to have an important purpose of travel, such as if you are a healthcare worker.

On December 21, the New Zealand government announced the postponement of a gradual easing of border closures to help prevent the spread of Omicron.

The phased border easing will be reviewed at the end of February.


Vaccinated Britons can enter Qatar but must then quarantine for two days or until they receive a negative test result.

Unvaccinated Britons must isolate for seven days.


Only Singapore citizens and permanent residents can enter Singapore without prior authorization.

South Korea

Britons can come to South Korea, but must self-isolate for 10 days upon arrival.


The Taiwanese government has announced a temporary ban on foreign nationals entering the country.

Exceptions apply to foreign spouses of Taiwanese citizens, international students, and researchers.


Vietnam has suspended entry for all foreign nationals.

There are minor exceptions for certain skilled workers, which will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
