Before you open your construction site and start to break ground, you need to make sure that you have enough PPE for everyone who is going to be working on site. While some of your contractors might have PPE they bring from home, having spares that they can use if they forget or their PPE gets lost or damaged is key. You should at least have hard hats and Hi-Viz jackets for your staff and any visitors to use on-site, and tell your staff to get a quality pair of work boots if they don’t have these already.

Construction sites don’t look like the tidiest places in the world, but you must keep them clean from debris and other items that could lead to slips, trips, and falls. - Give Each Team Member an Induction to the Site
Before work starts on your site, make sure you’re giving your staff an induction so they can familiarize themselves with it. Not every construction site is the same, so your staff must understand where the safe zones are, where they can sign in, the site office location, toilets, break rooms, etc. Make a list for your employees to sign off on when they have completed their induction so that you know who can start working on site safely.

While PPE is important, so is having safe equipment to work with. There will be a variety of tools that your teams will need to carry out the construction, but you’ll also need to think about other equipment such as secure scaffolding and platforms. Security doors and providing staff and guests with access passes are also useful to keep unwanted visitors out of your site.
