6,597 PCR and 4,564 Covid-19 antigen cases reported as 892 Covid patients hospitalized with 88 in ICU

There have been 11,161 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Ireland today.

The Department of Health said 6,597 cases were confirmed via PCR testing while 4,564 people registered their antigen results online.

This is an increase of more than 1,000 positive PCR test results and a decrease of nearly 500 anitgen results reported the previous day.

The Department also confirmed that there are 892 Covid-19 patients being treated at hospitals across the country – a decrease of 4 patients compared to a day earlier.

While the number of people with coronavirus receiving care in the ICU fell by two to 88.

A statement read: “The Health Protection Surveillance Center was notified today of 6,597* confirmed cases of COVID-19.

“In addition, on Thursday, January 20, 4,564** people registered for a positive antigen test through the HSE portal.

“As of 8 am today, 892 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 88 are in the ICU.”
