A Brief History of Dragonstone, Daemon Targaryen’s New Home in the House of Dragons

Dragonstone was the birthplace of Aegon Targaryen I, who would later be called Aegon the Conqueror when uniting the seven kingdoms of Westeros for the first time. Many houses were there centuries before the Targaryens crossed the narrow sea, but they soon fell within the sights of their dragon-riding rulers. While the Targaryen kings ruled the Kingship, as other Westerosi kings had done before, their true ancestor remained Dragonstone. After the Mad King, Aerys II, was killed by a teenager Jaime Lannister, House Baratheon ascended the throne, and Dragonstone became a Baratheon holder instead. Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane), King Robert’s younger brother, has finally taken over the island castle and made it his home.

The room that Stannis eventually turned into his war room, complete with a giant wooden table with a map of Westeros, appears in the second episode of “House of the Dragon”, when Daemon tries to reassure her lover, Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), after lying about them both marrying her and her getting pregnant. The large wooden map is missing, but the rest of the room is unmistakable, right from the dragon carvings on the walls and the floor-to-ceiling “windows” that overlook stunning ocean views. .
