A burst water main floods the A22 near Hailsham

A burst water main has flooded a street.

The pipe broke northbound outside the Diplocks roundabout near Hailsham around 6pm this evening.

Cars can be seen driving through about “four inches of water” covering the roadway.

The Argus know that South East Water workers are currently at the site of the ruptured pipe.

The road was closed around 8 p.m.

Sussex was hit with rain today causing some road flooding.

The Eastbourne line was closed for almost two hours after heavy rain caused the ballast to become unstable. Network Rail inspected the route and put it back into service around 6 p.m.

Gatwick Airport also issued a warning about delays and even cancellations of flights due to “poor weather conditions”.

South East Water has been contacted for further comment on the burst pipe.
