AN INQUIRY has been launched after a construction worker died while working at Gatwick Airport railway station.
Paramedics and British Transport Police officers were called to report that a worker at the station was injured.
However, the 35-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family has been informed and is being assisted by specially trained officials.
The man had been working on the £150million upgrade of the station but died after “an incident at the site”, according to John Halsall, regional managing director for Network Rail’s southern region.
He said: “This is a tragic accident and our thoughts are with the family and friends of the colleague.
“We will do everything we can to support everyone involved and are working closely with the UK Transport Police and Health and Safety Executive who are leading the investigation.”
The incident happened on July 22 at 00:13.
