A conversation with Andrew Avanessian, CEO of Digital Adoption Platform: AppLearn

AppLearn is a Manchester-based Digital Adoption Platform (DAP) provider dedicated to making software work better for everyone.

The company was originally founded in 2011 and has grown incredibly since then. We now have offices in Boston, San Francisco and Slovakia and work with market-leading companies in over 170 countries.

Our flagship platform, Adopt, provides businesses with intelligent software to help them get the most out of their business applications. DAPs like Adopt are growing in popularity as our work increasingly takes place online – organizations want to ensure they are getting the right value from the applications their employees use every day.

Adopt can be installed and layered over enterprise applications to learn how users interact and use them to provide targeted support when needed.

It might detect that someone is struggling with a specific feature and therefore offers personalized support through pop-ups, chatbot prompts, and how-to guides. It can also collect detailed analytics, allowing organizations to measure end-to-end processes. It contributes significantly to increasing productivity and enables companies to optimize their technology investments.

How has the company performed during the pandemic?

As a company, we are an agile player in a multi-billion dollar market that is growing – fast. Over the years we’ve firmly established ourselves in the digital adoption space, but with the energy and pace of a company that’s constantly pushing boundaries, which has been a useful culture to carry on as the world changed due to the pandemic.

This rapid digital transformation meant we were ideally positioned to offer our clients insight and support in navigating this changing work landscape.

In this way, we have acted as pioneers despite otherwise challenging conditions during the pandemic. AppLearn was ranked as a Leader in Everest Group DAP Products’ 2020/2021 PEAK Matrix, was a winner of the 2021 Northern Tech 100, was included in Constellation’s Q1 2021 ShortList™ for Digital Adoption Platforms, and was included in the Future of Work – Culture 2021” by IDC.

How has the company developed in recent months?

The last few months have been transformative for us. We have secured funding and invested in the best team and technology to accelerate our global growth plans and create a truly world-class DAP. In January, we agreed financing with Silicon Valley Bank and NPIF – Maven Equity Finance, managed by Maven Capital Partners (Maven) and part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund (NPIF). The funding allowed us to expand our Northwest-based team and create 60 new positions.

In March, we took the pivotal step of completing a major acquisition of Slovakia-based DAP provider YesElf. AppLearn will own YesElf’s existing platform, which is the market leader in AI and machine learning-based user experience capabilities. This enabled us to triple our development capacity.

With clients currently in around 100 countries, funding, team growth and technical investments will result in Adopt being introduced into exciting new markets such as South Africa and expanding our presence in the lucrative North American market. It’s a really exciting time for the team.

What can we expect from AppLearn in the future?

We’ve seen an incredible appetite for DAPs over the past few years, and now is the time to capitalize on it. More than ever, people depend on software to get their jobs done. DAPs like Adopt are an ideal way for companies going through digital transformations to ensure their software is working for them.

As a result, DAP providers are poised for significant market growth and with our funding and acquisition, we are in a prime position to further increase our share of the space. A conversation with Andrew Avanessian, CEO of Digital Adoption Platform: AppLearn
