I founded Moixa in 2006 with the aim of developing innovative energy technologies. Moixa has now become the UK’s leading smart battery and AI software company, with our innovative GridShare™ software offering solar battery and electric vehicle charging owners better value for money.
Our goal is to improve the value of energy and enable more renewable energy on the grid – by increasing the IQ of batteries – such as This can ultimately help reduce fossil fuel use by ensuring more wind and solar energy is stored and shifted to peak times.
How did you come up with the idea for the company?
I had invented a successful folding keyboard for mobile PDA devices and, with my co-founder Chris Wright, began patenting a range of advanced mobile devices such as modular smartwatches and scrollable displays. We made various prototypes before realizing that each required better batteries and compact AC/DC power supplies. This led to the creation of Moixa to focus on reinventing batteries and power supplies.
Our first product was a USB rechargeable AA battery – which sold over a million units and won a top iF Gold design award – and showed that even batteries can be made reusable and more sustainable.
How has the company performed during the pandemic?
The pandemic has presented challenges for businesses across the board. At Moixa, this impacted our teams, sales and installation, and also delayed and altered a funding round that we had in the pipeline.
However, all of this has resulted in our increased focus on the well-being of our team and providing them with the support and tools they need to work from home, which in turn has helped us work better with international clients.
What can we expect from Moixa in the future?
We are scaling faster and more internationally than ever before. Our world is facing enormous geopolitical challenges with the energy transition and climate.
We see an increased need for speed and scale to rapidly electrify the world and homes—with more renewable energy, batteries, and electric vehicles. This requires a massive focus on leveraging our GridShare software to control existing resources more intelligently and improve household electrical products. We want to make the transition to renewable energy and access to low-carbon solar power much easier for everyone, helping to accelerate the end of fossil fuels.
