Coming from a poor family, I was motivated to get involved in university, to excel academically and to begin my entrepreneurial journey soon after.
Fortunately, I found success early on. I founded Tango in 2009 as an innovative messaging and video chat app, the first mobile, cross-platform and cross-network video chat platform.
Tango has grown in popularity over the years, adapting to global market changes. In 2018 we pivoted into the exciting live streaming space and took our high quality video technology with us. Live streaming is already a $70 billion market in China and a growing phenomenon that is spilling over into the western world. Today, Tango is the largest Western company in UGC (user-generated content) live streaming.
How did you come up with the idea of the company?
In 2017 it was clear that Tango needed to realign to keep up with the world – live streaming was still in its infancy but had great potential. Tango was ready to embrace this technology with 35 patents for superior video quality and super flexible nature. I was very confident at the time that we could achieve great things in this area and I am proud to say that we are doing just that.
What are the biggest trends affecting the social media industry?
In recent years we have seen major changes in social media. The western market is a rapidly expanding space for live streaming and UGC. The ad business model is shrinking and many social networks are switching to other business models with different monetization methods.
Coupled with the shorter attention spans of today’s generations, it’s clear that social media will evolve more towards live content and will rely more on microtransactions than ad-centric consumer monetization. 5G technology, which enables live content in HD, is already on the rise and makes it even clearer where the world is going. With a head start in the western market, Tango has the opportunity to lead the industry through this growth.
What’s coming for Tango in 2022?
Tango highlights social media, providing live content and meaningful connections with no ads while respecting user privacy. Our live platform is constantly being improved to fuel the ultimate creator economy where creators can interact, connect, build their fan base and make money as a full or part time job.
