A cuisine with a distinct Italian flair and 2.5 acres in Laois

Carezza, Summergrove, Mountmellick, Co. Laois €600,000
he Italian word Carezza means “to caress,” as you might expect, but it’s also the name of a lake in Tyrol with calm, dark green waters and a nearby town and ski resort high in the Dolomites.
Found in Mountmellick, Carezza occupies two and a half acres of flat terrain, as you might expect of County Laois, but offers fine views west towards the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Fionn Mac Cumhail is said to have grown up in the mountain range about five miles away.
Carezza was built in the 1970’s in the Summergrove urban area, which takes its name from Summergrove House, the surviving 18th century Palladian style house. It was built for a Huguenot family called the Sabatier, one of whom later began making the famous Sabatier chef’s knives used by serious chefs.
Chefs will also feel right at home in Carezza, as the kitchen is designed for efficient but convivial cooking. It is made of solid wood and has a kitchen island, pantry and aga. This is followed by a kind of orangery with double doors to a patio.
Also off the kitchen is a family room with a range cooker and there are also two further reception rooms – a two-sided drawing room with a marble fireplace and a dining room with French doors to the garden.
The ground floor also has a study with built in desk and shelving and a bedroom with ensuite shower and walk in closet. A further six bedrooms are located upstairs, the master bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The home has been expanded over the years and is now 3,544 square feet. The grounds include a gym and garage, and elsewhere there are lawns with mature trees and shrubs, and a paddock next to it. Mountmellick is about two miles away.
Carezza is listed for sale at Kate O’Shea Auctioneers (086) 798 1888 for €600,000.
