A dead newborn’s eyes and nose have reportedly been removed by hospital nurses in a horrific incident

Three nurses at a private hospital in Nigeria have been accused of removing the eyes, nose and ear of a dead newborn.

The incident happened Sunday at an unnamed hospital in Asaba, the Delta state capital.

Delta State Police Command authorities arrested the three suspects after the baby’s parents filed a police report, Vanguard Ngr reported.

“The parents took the child to the hospital on Sunday evening. Our pediatrician (pediatrician) immediately saw the child and confirmed his death after all efforts to bring the newborn back to life failed,” a hospital source told Punch NG.

It was unclear why the baby was taken to the hospital. The child was pronounced dead by a pediatrician at the hospital, and the newborn’s body was handed over to the parents. However, on Monday, the parents noticed that the baby’s eyes, nose and ear were missing.

“The hospital discharged them and the parents took the child, surprisingly today (Monday) the parents brought the baby and accused the hospital of removing the baby’s eyes, nose and ear… They came with the police and arrested some nurses at the hospital .”

State Command Police Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe confirmed the incident to Vanguard NG.

“It’s true, but I don’t have the details of what happened. The information we received was that the child was taken to another hospital but was referred to this hospital where the child died,” Edafe said.

The motive behind the incident is still unknown. Police have not identified the three nurses allegedly involved in the incident. Charges against the defendants were also not published.

In a similar incident, a 32-year-old British nurse was charged with killing seven babies and attempting to kill ten others while working in a hospital’s neonatal unit. First, the Countess of Chester Hospital’s neonatal unit ruled out third-party negligence because “nobody thought anyone was trying to kill babies,” prosecutor Nick Johnson said in court on Monday. However, a “meticulous investigation” by police revealed that someone in the unit had poisoned two children with insulin.
