A four-day work week is challenging, but burnt-out employees just look for balance

It’s easy enough to reject a recent California proposal that would reduce the workweek to 32 hours over four days, from the current 40 over five, for the same amount of wages. Oh, there’s those crazy Californians again, you might be thinking, so desperate for an extra day at the beach they’d trample decades of workplace standards to get it.

At this point it is very unlikely that the law will be passed. Business interests are fiercely opposed, while relatively few residents seem even aware of the proposal. The legislation is very targeted – it only affects non-union companies with more than 500 employees.
