A grieving father lashes out at Texas cops who waited 90 minutes outside school as kids shot out

A distraught father of a child killed in a Texas school shooting questioned why “40 lawyers armed to the teeth” waited outside during the massacre until it was “way too late”.

18-year-old Salvador Ramos butchered 19 children and two teachers at Robb Primary School in Uvalde, the massacre lasting around 90 minutes before he was finally shot dead by police.

Jacinto Cazares, whose 10-year-old daughter Jacklyn was killed, wants to know why the police waited outside instead of going inside to rescue the children.

The first 911 call was made at 11.30am Tuesday morning by someone who said a man had fallen near the school and run off with a long rifle.

Ramos was spotted and “engaged by law enforcement” but went to school anyway, and it was another 90 minutes before he was finally killed.

According to initial reports, police held back fire because Ramos appeared to be wearing protective body armour, but it has since been revealed that was not the case.

“There were at least 40 lawyers armed to the teeth but they did absolutely nothing [until] it was far too late”, Mr. Cazares said ABC News.

“The situation could have been over quickly if they had had better tactical training and we as a community have witnessed it firsthand.”

He said he was not against guns but said they should only be issued after controls and with age restrictions.

“I am a gun owner and do not blame the guns used in this tragedy,” he said.

“I’m furious at how easy it is to get one and young you can be to buy one.”

Similarly, during the shooting, a witness outside the school testified that women outside yelled at officers, “Get in there, get in there,” he said New York Post.

Juan Carranza, 24, saw Ramos crash his car and then grab an AR-15-style semi-automatic rifle before walking away.

Mr Carranza claimed Ramos shot and missed two people outside a nearby funeral home.

A spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety said Ramos shot a school district security officer and then shot inside the building at two oncoming police officers from Uvalde.

At the time, local and state police and 80 border patrol agents were on the scene, and yet some locals now say it took them too long to act.

A customs and border guard said it was four of the 80 border guards who went in and killed Ramos.

However, Mr Carranza said: “There were more of them, there was only one of him.”

It is not yet known why the school district security officer did not fire back at Ramos.

The revelations about how long it took police to arrest him were met with widespread outrage on social media, with critics calling officers “pathetic” and “too scared to get involved with the shooter.”
