A former nurse is heartbroken after her beloved cat was bitten to death by a strange dog in her own backyard.
Fiona McMillan, 59, heard a bang on her back door and saw her rescue cat Tom in the mouth of a black Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog on the back patio of her home in Glenrothes, Fife.
Fiona, who is disabled and has a number of health issues, struggled desperately to free Tom from the dog’s mouth, he says daily record.
Moments later, Fiona claims that a woman and a shirtless man suddenly appeared in her garden and dragged the dog away, fleeing the scene within seconds.

Fiona rushed to Tom’s side, but unfortunately the cat had already died.
She said: “I tried to pull the dog away from Tom but it didn’t help. Suddenly a woman appeared on the terrace, then a shirtless man.
“I asked her, ‘Is that your dog?’ and the woman said, ‘It’s his.’ to which the man replied: “It was you who let him out”.
“He pulled the dog away and they both walked quickly. I was in shock, I didn’t know what to do.
“Tom’s eyes were rolled back and his mouth was open, he wasn’t moving. I knew immediately that he was dead.
“It was devastating.”

The former NHS worker took in “quiet and kind” Tom from a re-homing center in late 2018 after being abandoned by two previous owners.
She says she is now afraid to sleep and fears she will suffer nightmares after witnessing the horrific attack.
Fiona added: “I’m heartbroken and angry. I haven’t slept much since Saturday – I’m too scared to sleep in case I get nightmares.
“I don’t have any kids, it was just Tom and me.

“He’s been my company for the past three years, especially during lockdown, and now he’s just gone.
“Locals should be aware of this dog. He could kill again.”
Fiona reported the incident to the police later that day and the matter was escalated to the Fife Council Canine Supervisor.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “On Saturday 21 May officers received a report that a cat had been killed in Aitken Road, Glenrothes.
“Advice and assistance has been given and the reporter is being referred to the appropriate authority.”
