A lorry catches fire on the A22 Uckfield Bypass

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a rest area after a truck carrying e-waste caught fire.

Three fire engines were to be sprayed inside the trailer on the A22 Uckfield bypass at around 8am this morning.

The road is closed between the A26 Lewes Road and the B2102 Copwood roundabout.

An excavator helped move the e-waste out of the trailer. The fire can be seen in the middle of the trash.

There was also congestion in Newtown and Uckfield High Street after the fire, back along Bellfarm Road, Eastbourne Road and Framfield Road.

The spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Services said: “At 08.16 we were called to a lorry fire on the Uckfield Bypass, Little Horsted, Uckfield.

“Crews from Uckfield, Lewes and Crowborough took part.

“The A22 was closed during the incident.

“We have now left the crime scene and the road has been reopened.”
