A magnificent seven for Derry City against the UCD low

Derry City got back to winning ways at Brandywell by teaching UCD a lesson.
The impasse was broken after 14 minutes when Will Patching blasted home a pass from Patrick McEleney.
As the home side increased the pressure, they scored twice in as many minutes – both from Jamie McGonigle’s boot. The forward snatched a pass from Cameron Dummigan to make it 2-0 in the 22nd minute before Brian Maher found him in space on the left wing and completed well.
It was 4-0 in the 34th minute when Patching crossed Cameron McJannet from close range to head home before Derry scored the fifth just before half-time when Dummigan’s 40-yard shot somehow went into the bottom corner went.
Derry picked up where they left off when Ronan Boyce headed home a Patching cross in the 55th minute and it was 7-0 after an hour as McGonigle completed his hat-trick with a composed finish.
Alex Nolan grabbed a consolation for UCD when he shot through a crowd after 63 minutes in a rare moment of joy on a miserable night.
