A man, 40, has died after getting into trouble while swimming off the Clare coast

A man in his 40s has died after being taken to hospital after getting into trouble while swimming off the Clare coast.

ardaí were called by the Coast Guard when man after man got into trouble while swimming off the beach in Fanroe, Co Clare around 9.30pm yesterday.

Gardaí and rescue services were on site and the man was pulled out of the water.

The man was taken to Galway University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is the second drowning this week as more people enter the water due to the rise in temperature.

A teenager died on Tuesday after getting into trouble while swimming at Burrow Beach in Sutton, North Co Dublin.

Labor Councilor Brian Mc Donagh said of the teenager’s death: “We just have to be so careful. It’s so, so awful. We have beautiful beaches and we love to see people enjoying them and it’s just devastating for the family.

“Everyone feels it a little bit. I’m swimming on the other side, at the Portmarnock end of this beach, and it was just a beautiful summer’s day; as hot as it gets and it’s devastating that someone goes out to do something pretty normal and then gets in trouble.

“It kind of reminds us how much attention we need to give each other.”

Mr McDonagh’s message to look out for one another in the water is now reverberating across the country as another family lost someone to drowning.
