A man armed with a knife dies in hospital after being shot dead by police in Derby

A man armed with a knife has died in hospital after being shot dead by police.

Armed officers shot dead the unnamed man, who was responding to reports from colleagues of a knifeman in a police station parking lot.

Derbyshire Constabulary issued a statement, which read: “At 9.55am today (October 7) officers reported seeing a man armed with a knife in the secure car park of Ascot Drive Police Station on Ascot Drive in Derby .

“Armed officers were dispatched to the scene and at 10.03am a police firearm was fired.

“The man, whose identity is unknown, suffered a gunshot wound and the East Midlands Ambulance Service have been called to attend.

“Officials administered first aid until paramedics got to the scene and he was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.”

Police said an investigation is ongoing to identify the man who died.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) has been informed.
