A man’s TUI holiday was ‘ruined’ when his luggage went missing leaving him with just one outfit to wear

A holidaymaker says his trip has been “ruined” after claiming he was stranded without his luggage with just one outfit for almost a week.

Leon Deacon flew TUI from Manchester to Cancun on June 15 and said he had “zero communication” about his lost luggage.

He said Manchester evening news : “I booked the holiday to come and relax and that made it a disaster.

“The whole situation from start to finish ruined my vacation. I had no clothes, no phone charger, no toothbrush, nothing necessary.

“For six days I had no updates or means to buy clothes. I want to come home to be honest.”

TUI initially urged Leon to email their helpdesk before not responding to him for six days.

He says he wore the same outfit during that time before finally getting money from the airline for a different outfit.

His bag was delivered on the sixth day of his trip.

He said TUI didn’t even notify him that they had delivered the suitcase and claims to be “not at all apologetic” there.

A TUI spokesman told MEN they were “sorry” and that they were investigating the matter.

Leon said: “I went on a solo trip to de-stress and relax and it made my holiday even worse as I was stressed about the situation.

“I couldn’t relax, couldn’t go out and enjoy myself because basically I had smelly clothes.

“I have had no updates or help from TUI – not even an item of clothing or an email saying it has been delivered or where it is.”

Leon says he never wants to fly with the airline again.

He added: “I would not recommend ever flying TUI again. They didn’t even offer me any kind of apology or compensation to keep me as a regular customer.”

It comes after TUI’s boss apologized to holidaymakers who have faced “hardship” and a “bad experience” at airports due to the travel chaos in recent weeks.

Holidaymakers have had to deal with hour-long queues, flight delays, baggage problems and more as airlines and airports grapple with staffing shortages and a surge in demand in the wake of the pandemic, among other factors.

A TUI spokesman said: “We are sorry to hear about this customer’s experience with their luggage in Cancun.

“We can confirm that we are investigating this further with our baggage handler to find out exactly what happened.”

“We will be in direct contact with the customer to help resolve the issue and provide details on how to claim missing items.”

Der Spiegel contacted TUI for comment.
