A Modder Turned a Fake GameCube Mobile Design Into a Real Handset

Back in 2007, a fake GameCube mobile design went viral on the internet. In 2022, someone really made it happen.

YouTube user GingerOfOz 3D printed, wired, and modified the handset to look exactly like the original model – and it actually works.

Of course, there are a few obstacles. The original design featured a disc slot, but both the GameCube and Wii drives were larger than the new handheld.

The slot on the front of the handset is therefore just for show, as GingerOfOz has instead opted to run all the games digitally using the Wii motherboard.

He admits this will be a point of contention, as the machine won’t have a GameCube launch screen and menus, so has modified the software to run both as expected.

The video shows GingerOfOz putting it all together, from scratch when he reverse engineered (read: hammered open) a Nintendo DS Lite, to the pieces of the case sealed together to mark the finished product. .
