There’s a new interview about the upcoming MMORPG Into the Echo with the game maker. In it, we get a little more detail on what to expect from the game, its time travel mechanics, what the echo means, and a taste of the plans for lore and development.
Founder and Producer Etlok Akshay Kolte tell PCGamesN that time travel is involved in world building, with the developers’ conception of the world of Raava as having a long history, complete with significant developments in time. This led to the decision to treat these points as potential points in history to make the past not just like a dry text in a history book, but something more alive. It’s similar to what Amazon has a plan for Aeternum in New world.
When a sufficiently significant event happened in the past, it left an echo in time that the player can exploit to re-cap those moments, which gives us an idea of some of the concepts and title. We also know that time travel requires a ritual, and that each echo does not necessarily represent just one moment in time, but can have multiple points stored in the world’s memory. There are also Time Keepers to protect the echo, so the player will have to decide what to do with them.
The team calls the progression system a “center-and-speak” system in which players use a number of different progression trees that can be linked to specific skills or goals without having to focus. enter the XP bar or just think about hitting the level cap. Players will be able to decide which plants they are interested in and which they want to level up, and in what order they want to reach them. This non-linear system opens up flexibility and doesn’t put everyone in the same direction as limits. They hope this leads people to sit back and enjoy the journey.
Players will also have the opportunity to explore how magic works and thrives in the world. Combat will be action-based and what the team calls undifferentiated, meaning players can engage in combat without having to change their actual character or recover for battles.
