A nice stranger paid my £35 gas bill when I lost my bank card… he settled it and didn’t ask for a dime back

One man has told how a nice stranger paid his £35 gas bill when he lost his bank card – and didn’t ask for a dime back.

Keith Caley, 79, finds himself in a predicament as he refills his car at the JET garage in Stokesley, North Yorkshire.

When the pensioner came to the counter, he realized that he had lost his bank card and was unable to pay his bill.

But fortunately, a kind samaritan came to the rescue and decided to pay for Keith’s fuel.

Keith told Teeside Live: “The man was standing behind me. He said ‘go check your car to see if you left it there.’ There was no sign of that.

“I asked how much was the gas bill, this guy behind me stood there for a few minutes while I went to check.

“He just said ‘it’s okay man, I’ll pay for it’. That was amazing. I couldn’t believe it.”

Keith tells the mysterious man that he only lives at the end of town, and can go home to get the money back to him.

Keith said: “He said ‘it’s okay.’ He never thought about it any more, you would think he did it every day.

“It’s a wonderful gesture, really great that someone can be so kind. I’ve never met him before in my life.

“I don’t know if he’s a local or someone passing by. Great guy, to do this.”

Keith then went back to his steps and luckily found the lost card.

Now, to pass on the kindness, Keith and his sister Audrey have submitted a collection of essentials to a Ukraine petition.

Keith said: “It’s the least we can do. There’s a lot of good going on at the moment.

“It could trigger a few more people to do the same – I hope it does.”

Audrey added: “That young man must have seen how distraught he was. It came to £35.25.

“Keith was delighted, you can’t expect anyone to be this kind. We wanted to let him know how grateful we were.

“It gave Keith a real buzz, that lovely young man, I just wish someone was kind and sweet to him.

“We said we would pass it on – whatever happens around will come. There are more kind people in this world than bad people.”
