Former California Supreme Court Justice LaDoris Hazzard CordellAppearing on CNN’s “The Source” on Monday, argued that it wasn’t really because they feared Chutkan would be impartial or unfair to Trump, which Trump’s team has argued is due to the harsh penalties they have imposed has already imposed on rioters on January 6th for a comment she made about Trump still being free.

Ultimately, Cordell said, it would be a jury that would decide Trump’s innocence or guilt.

Instead, Cordell said Trump’s legal team was “genuinely afraid” that “she will be the sentencing judge when he is convicted, and they saw how she responded to those convicted about her involvement.”

However, Cordell doubted Chutkan would retreat.

“In my view, she can be absolutely fair in this case given her history already in this case and in other cases. So they’re really grasping at straws,” she said in a video shared online Mediait.
