A simple iPhone error eats up your battery life — and it’s so easy to fix

THE IPHONE is one of the most popular smartphones in the world, largely thanks to its intuitive interface, premium design, and excellent selection of apps.

But there is one issue that frequently annoys users and that is the phone’s battery life.

Keep an eye on your iPhone's battery life

For most, their iPhone barely lasts a full day from an overnight charge, which can prove to be quite frustrating — especially when you have something going on in the evening and haven’t managed to keep the battery charged all day.

Luckily, there are a few hidden tricks you can use to extend your Apple device’s battery life.

Here are some of the best…

Turn off your Wi-Fi connection when you’re out and about

Warning to all iPhone fans - a simple mistake can cost you money

One of the best ways to save battery life is with a simple WiFi-related hack.

This is a common mistake users make: leaving WiFi on when they’re not on a WiFi network.

Just turn off your WiFi when you’re out and use 4G or 5G instead of a WiFi network.

This is good for your battery life because your iPhone isn’t constantly searching for a Wi-Fi network to connect to – an activity that uses a significant amount of battery power.

However, if you’re at home or at a friend’s house, always try to connect to WiFi over the data connection, as it uses a lot less battery.

To turn Wi-Fi on or off, go to your iPhone Settings > Wi-Fi.

Enable auto-brightness

Other ways to save valuable battery life, no matter how you use your device, is simply by tweaking your settings.

For one, make sure you turn on auto-brightness. This feature automatically adjusts your screen to the lighting conditions and dims the screen in low light conditions to save battery.

To enable it, go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Show Accommodations and set Auto-Brightness to On.

Activate energy saving mode

Another surefire way to conserve battery life is to enable power save mode. This reduces display brightness, optimizes device performance, and minimizes system animations.

In sleep mode, apps, including Mail, don’t download content in the background, and features like AirDrop, iCloud sync, and continuity are turned off.

You can still use essential functions like make and receive calls, receive email and messages, access the Internet, and more. And when your phone is charging again, it will turn off automatically.

To enable it, go to Settings > Battery.

Disable background activity

Another great way to increase battery life is to turn off background activity. This feature indicates that the battery is being used by other apps in the background while you are using another app.

To save battery life, you can turn off the feature that updates apps in the background. Go to “Settings” > “General” > “Background App Refresh” and select “Wi-Fi”, “Wi-Fi & mobile data” or “Off” to turn off background app refresh completely.

Make sure you’re up to date

Finally, always make sure your device is using the latest version of iOS.

This is because Apple is constantly releasing patches that improve the way the iPhone uses its battery power.

To make sure you have the latest update installed, simply go to Settings > General > Software update.

If an update is available, you can connect your device to a power source and update over the air, or connect it to your computer and update with the latest version of iTunes.
