A Streets of Rage movie comes from the creator of John Wick

A film based on the classic streets of anger Game series is in the works according to a report from meeting. John Wick Creator Derek Kolstad reportedly wrote the screenplay on demand (without a studio contract) while the production company stood behind it Sonic the Hedgehog Movies produce the adaptation. Escape Artists, the studio behind it The equalizer franchise, is also on board to produce the film, meeting reports.

streets of anger was first released for SEGA Genesis in 1991, with Streets of Rage 2 and 3 Launched on the heels in 1992 and 1994. In each game, you play as badass vigilantes beating the bad guys who pollute the city streets. The fourth part of the side-scrolling beat-’em-up was released in 2020, 26 years after the third game. As my colleague Andrew Webster notes his reviewit still manages to capture the same retro feel as the original trio of games, and I could imagine the modern day adaptation of the series could look something like this.

I’m always wary of game-to-movie adaptations, but Kolstad seems like just the ticket for bringing a beat ’em up to the big screen. When his work with that is incredibly intense John Wick and Nobody is any hint of what’s to come, I hope the adaptation is just as action-packed and suspenseful.

dj2 Entertainment is on the rise with video game adaptations release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Earlier this month and his deal to adapt the popular indie title It takes two for film and television. It also collaborates on projects Tomb Raider, Disco Elysiumand life is strange. Kolstad was as busy with video game adaptations himself as he was called to work on the live-action versions of splinter group, hit manand just cause.
