A wedding and Eurovision? Wild Youth to Liverpool for the May competition
It looks like May has been a great month for established drummer, Callum McAdam of Wild Youth, following the band’s victory to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool that same month.
I plan to get married in May, Katie [his fiancé] told me, this is great, but you better win,” Callum told Ryan Tubridy after last night’s announcement on the Late Late Show.
Nearly beating Connolly by two points in a fierce vote, their Eurovision entry, We Are One, was written by Grammy-nominated musician Jörgen Elofsson.
They told host Ryan Tubridy: “We are shocked, shaken, thank you to everyone who voted for us, we just hope we can do the best job for Ireland.”
“We wanted to take a risk and do this and a lot of people told us we were psychotic, but we wanted to do this.”
The four-member band from Dublin has a string of top hits in Ireland and has toured with the likes of Niall Horan, Lewis Capaldi and Westlife.
The band consists of four friends, Conor O’Donohoe (keyboard/vocals) and David Whelan (vocals/guitars), Ed Porter (guitar/vocals) and Callum McAdam (drums), they formed together in 2016 in Dublin.
In 2017, the group released their debut single All or Nothing, opening the door for Zara Larsson and Niall Horan in Ireland.
They then played Electric Picnic in 2019, sharing Main Stage Saturday with songs like Years and Years, The 1975 and The Strokes.
