A woman who has spent over £3,000 on her teeth in Turkey has shared the stark warning she received from her dentist.

Jak Reid, from Renfrewshire, Scotland, paid £3,500 for new white crowns, accommodation and flights to the holiday destination, according to reports Birmingham Live.

The TikTok influencer later shared a clip with the social media platform and wrote: “My dentist is reacting to my turkey teeth. Thank goodness she was very sweet.”

In the video, the dentist tells her, “I’m just going to say this, I know you don’t want to hear this. A lot of tissue has been removed here. The risk of getting into trouble is very high.

“There’s not much else you can do from here other than implants if something happens.”

Ms Reid added: “It was my lovely dentist who advised me my teeth are fine. I knew there were risks.”

She claimed some critics called her a “little girl” with “no brain” for performing the procedure, and others branded her “stupid.”

Dental experts also commented on the post with one sentence: “You should have had Venners [sic]. I’m a dental assistant, the crowns are sooo bad.”

Another wrote: “I’m a dental assistant and what the dentist says is correct. Turkey teeth don’t last long, once there’s a problem people want the NHS to fix it.”

And a third added: “I’ve been in dentistry for over 12 years and having crowns/veneers abroad is the worst thing you can do. Hope you don’t have any problems with yours.”

Ms Reid, who has over 70,000 followers on TikTok, said: “I’ve had veneers for 6-7 years. I have a five year guarantee against failure and damage. If you take proper care, they can last 15-25 years.”

She added: “I’ve had root canals on my front teeth before. I’ve been looking for places for two years.

“My teeth weren’t really healthy. I’ve already had root canals on my front teeth and I’ve already had veneers so I haven’t really ruined healthy teeth. My teeth were already f*****.”

The comments come after a London dentist warned that people who shave their teeth in hopes of achieving the perfect smile are “ruining their teeth for the rest of their lives”.

dr Manouchehri shared viral video of another woman saying she traveled to Turkey to have her teeth shaved for veneers – only to point out she wasn’t given any veneers at all.

The dentist corrected her by noting that she had instead been given full-surface crowns and not veneers, which are molded pieces that are bonded to the front of a tooth.

He explained: “If you’ve seen my previous video, you know that shaving your teeth down to the pins will damage the nerve and you will need a root canal and tooth extraction at some point in your life.

“Second point: Veneers or crowns usually have to be replaced every 10 to 15 years. Now she’s a beautiful young woman, I think she’s about 18 or 19 at most, and she’ll probably have to replace her 4 times or 5 times in her life if not more.

“Not only will the financial burden be a problem, secondly there will be a biological burden because the tooth cannot be physically prepared and re-prepared every time.

“So she’s a beautiful young lady and she’s ruined her teeth, possibly for the rest of her life, and she’ll have dentures by the age of 40.”

More and more people are opting for dental treatment abroad, with Turkey, Hungary and Croatia all popular with Brits.
