THE A23 is closed on both sides after a horrific crash between a car and a truck.
The incident happened around 5.15am this morning southbound near Bolney.
Police have closed both sides of the A23 from Pease Pottage and do not know when it will reopen.
An overturned car can be seen in the inner lane, while the truck partially left the roadway.
A tarpaulin was also laid out on the street.
Police, fire brigade and rescue workers are on site.
Sussex Police are looking for witnesses to the accident this morning.
A spokesman said: “Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious collision between a car and a lorry on the A23 near Bolney at around 5.15am on Sunday 10th July.
“The road is currently closed in both directions from exit 11 (Pease Pottage) while police, fire and ambulance are at the scene.
“It is likely that the road will be closed in both directions for an extended period and it is not yet known when the road will reopen.
“Anyone planning to use the road is being asked to take an alternative route.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has dashcam footage of it, is asked to report it to police by emailing it to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 101 and the operation Riverhill states.”
Significant delays are currently occurring on the northbound A23 as traffic is diverted via the Cowfold junction.
