A27 portion closed near Chichester due to tractor fire

PART of the A27 is closed after a tractor and its hay bales caught fire on a roundabout.

The fire broke out around 10am on the A27 Chichester Bypass at Bognor Road roundabout.

At least one fire truck is present, while police also helped block the road.

Hay can be seen scattered across the road, as well as large puffs of gray smoke.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Services said: “It is at Sainsbury’s roundabout on the eastbound carriageway.

“They have closed the A27 from Bognor Bridge roundabout, it will likely be closed for some time.

“Our advice to residents in the area is to keep windows closed because of the amount of smoke.”

A leisure center in Crawley also caught fire this morning, requiring ten fire engines to contain it.

While yesterday Seaford Head Golf Course saw a nearly five acre fire in a bush area that required four fire engines.
