Aaron Connolly says he’s ready to restart his career after making ‘some wrong decisions’ on and off the pitch.
The Albion striker is in pre-season with Serie B side Venezia after being loaned out.
It’s now almost three years since his surprise Premier League debut with two goals against Tottenham.
The Galwegian striker admits he has not been on loan with either his club, the Republic of Ireland, or Middlesbrough since.
He said Irish Football Fan TV: “Things haven’t gone as well as I had imagined for the last two, maybe three years.
“I started well. I’ve made some wrong decisions off the field, on the field, and it’s little details like that.
“If you don’t get the whole spot, it’s downhill really from there.
“I did a lot of things wrong. If I could do it differently, I would.
“But now it happened. Right now, physically or mentally, I don’t think I’ve been in a better place in years.”
He added with a rueful smile: “The Italian pre-season is very different. Much running.
“Since I’ve been here for the past ten days, it’s been tough.
“But now, physically or mentally, I haven’t felt this strong or this happy in a long, long time.”
He added: “A lot of people know why I didn’t kick and I know myself.
“So that move to Italy was crucial, just to get out of the circle I found myself in in England.
“I needed a fresh start”
