According to Microsoft, more than 10 million people have streamed games on Xbox Cloud Gaming

More than 10 million people have streamed games through Xbox Cloud Gaming, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Tuesday during the company’s third-quarter earnings call. Cloud gaming is a feature only available as part of the $14.99 per month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate tier. So the number shared on Tuesday shows that many people are trying it. It’s also a concrete statistic in an area where there have been few — Google doesn’t provide numbers for Stadia, and all numbers Nvidia shares for GeForce Now include people who used a no-obligation free trial.

Game Pass has proven popular, Microsoft said of the service in January grew to 25 million subscriberswhat was up from 18 million a year earlier. However, it’s unclear how Microsoft defines what counts as a streamed game from Xbox Cloud Gaming, so we don’t know exactly what the stats might represent, how many current subscribers are included in that number of streamed games, or how much playtime is required for that to happen the company can count them as a stream. It’s also worth noting that you can technically sign up for a month of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate for just a dollar and then cancel, and it’s unclear how many people who have done so and streamed a game might also be in the am Tuesday’s split number will be counted by Microsoft.

Microsoft invested heavily in Xbox Cloud Gaming and launched first on Android, then iOS and PCand then to Xbox consoles, meaning you can now stream a large library of Xbox games across a variety of devices. (I even used it for gaming psychonauts 2 on my steam deckand it worked beautifully.) And as of October, the service powered entirely by custom Xbox Series X hardwarewhich improved frame rates and load times and makes it so much better to use.

But the company also saw strong hardware sales, with Xbox only having its best March sales performance in 11 years and next-gen Xboxes are becoming much more readily available. Microsoft said Tuesday that Xbox hardware revenue is up 14 percent. However, Microsoft CFO Amy Hood warned that production shutdowns in China could impact future hardware sales, including “limited console shipments.” According to Microsoft, more than 10 million people have streamed games on Xbox Cloud Gaming
