Actor in Oscar-winning film Green Book found dead on the streets of New York

A man found dead on a sidewalk in New York City this week has been identified as Frank Vallelonga Jr, an actor who appeared in the Oscar-winning film Green Book.

allelonga, 60, is the son of one-time nightclub security guard Frank Vallelonga Sr., better known as Tony Lip, who was portrayed by Viggo Mortensen in the 2018 film.

Frank Vallelonga Jr played a relative of Mortensen’s character in the Oscar-winning film for best picture.

His body was discovered early Monday morning in the Bronx after a 911 caller reported seeing the body near a factory.

Police found no obvious signs of injury and the cause of death has yet to be determined.

Police identified Vallelonga on Thursday and his manager later confirmed it was the actor.

“It’s absolutely tragic and shocking,” said manager Melissa Prophet.

A 35-year-old man was charged with concealing a dead body the day after the body was found. The investigation is continuing.

Vallelonga has had more than half a dozen roles since 1994, including an appearance on The Sopranos, according to the IMDB website.

Green Book is based on a 1962 tour to the South by black pianist Don Shirley and his eldest brother Vallelonga, who served as Shirley’s chauffeur and bodyguard.

Elder Vallelonga later became known as an actor and played gang boss Carmine Lupertazzi on The Sopranos.
