Coronation Street actors Tyrone Dobbs and Fiz Stape may be getting married this Christmas, but they will never replace the show’s much-loved Jack and Vera Duckworth, the actors have said.
he aired the Christmas Day episode that will see Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan Halsall, getting ready for a surprise wedding with fiancée Fiz Stape, actor Jennie McAlpine.
It comes more than two decades after the couple shared their first on-screen kiss and after two turbulent years that saw the two pair up with other characters.
The actors said they were often stopped by fans of the film because they were eager to see Fiz and Tyrone have a happy ending.
But they stopped describing the couple as the new Jack and Vera.
“For me, Jack and Vera were out there alone, I think they were really brilliant,” Halsall said. I want to be Tyrone and Fiz, but I don’t think anyone can touch Jack and Vera.”
McAlpine said the Duckworths, played by the late Liz Dawn and Bill Tarmey, were not forgotten on the set.
“They are always remembered,” she said. Their pictures hang in our house, it still has their bar.
“That’s what’s special about Corrie. Sixty-odd years and we move on and we grow and that’s what happens in life, but remembering the past is really lovely.”
McAlpine said she hopes the wedding will be a fresh start for Fiz and Tyrone.
“Definitely after all they’ve been through!” she said.
But things don’t look right when Tyrone decides to plan a wedding without his future wife knowing.

Halsall said: “It was all in good spirits, he just wanted the best and he wanted Fiz to have a great day that he thought she deserved, but of course he didn’t think it through. thoughtful about that”.
Meanwhile, Fiz was “absolutely oblivious” to her upcoming wedding, McAlpine said, and was disappointed when her hopes for a perfect Christmas didn’t go as planned.
Halsall said: “I read the script about what Tyrone gave Fiz for Christmas and I have to admit I burst out laughing.
“Then we tried to film and burst out laughing. It’s horrible, I don’t want to give away the game but it’s a terrible gift.”
McAlpine said Fiz “walked away” after Tyrone suggested a pizza for Christmas dinner.
She said: “She was trying to find a turkey, in the middle of nowhere on a country road. The car she wasn’t very good at stopped working and she realized that she didn’t have a cell phone and she was in the middle of nowhere. Not so good.”
Tyrone goes downstairs and finds his bride-to-be gone and with no way to contact her.
“I think everything is going through his head because he’s not thinking about any other situation than that everything is going to go his way,” Halsall said.
McAlpine added: “Every time we get close to a certain level of stability in life, it goes wrong, doesn’t it?”
