British actress Lesley Joseph said she has no plans to retire because studying keeps her brain young while performing keeps her supple.
He’s Birds Of A Feather star, 76, who was the oldest contestant in the Serious from Disco competition in 2016, is taking on a new challenge in the form of Celebrity MasterChef.
She told the Sunday Express magazine: ‘Sometimes I can’t believe how old I am because I’ve got so much energy.
“There’s nothing I can’t do now that I could do when I’m 40. Honestly, I’m fit as a flea, and I love doing yoga.
“Retirement is not part of my plans, studying keeps my brain young and efficient, keeping my body fit.
“There are also some other things I want to do before I retire.”
Despite being on the Celebrity Coach Trip with Linda Robson and learning how to skydive, windsurf and go-karts, Joseph revealed Celebrity MasterChef is one of the most grueling things she’s done.
“It was terrifying,” she said. The worst thing about MasterChef is standing there waiting to be criticized.
“But I did a few things that took me out of my comfort zone, including being Serious, so I quite enjoyed a challenge.
“There is a part of me that is competitive. I compete with myself more than I compete with others.

“If I think I can do something well, I really get in trouble if I get it wrong. With shows like Serious and MasterChef, I want to do the best I can and have fun. “
She added that judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace were both “wonderful” and “very kind” throughout the process.
The actress, who currently plays Sister Mary Lazarus in Sister Act: The Musical alongside Beverley Knight and Jennifer Saunders, is known for playing Dorien Green on the sitcom Birds Of A Feather.
Reflecting on the show’s success, which ran from 1989 to 2020, she said: “Right time, right place. This is the first sitcom of its kind to focus on women and people love Tracey and Sharon.
“But my character, Dorien Green, had high heels, a mini skirt, big hair, jewelry, and long nails and somehow she became an icon.”
Speaking of her character’s iconic outfits, she said: “I also still have the dress I wore when I sang Madonna’s Like A Virgin on the show.
“I’m not ready to get rid of them so I’m officially a fashion hoarder.”
After a final Christmas special in 2020, Joseph parted ways with the character, confirming that the series is unlikely to return to TV screens.
“I don’t think we will, no. At my age, I don’t know how much longer I’ll be in business.
“I still have a lot of ambition, but I know my time is limited so I’d rather do something I’ve never done before,” she added.
