Adam Webster faces a new challenge at Brighton with De Zerbi

Adam Webster wants to put Albion’s Dangermen on the ball to get back on track in the Premier League.

The ball-playing defender recognizes he may need to take more risks, albeit calculated to make room for others, as part of head coach Roberto De Zerbi’s game plan.

But he’s confident his poise can help others weave their magic further forward.

The Seagulls brace for a side hit from Brentford for five last time out in Newcastle.

They take on the Bees on Friday (8pm, Sky Sports) at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Webster has already impressed De Zerbi with his willingness to get the ball and play it.

The defender said: “He will have his own ideas that he will convey to us.

“It will be some time before it is picked up.

“But you can see it’s already coming out, some really nice patterns.

“The only thing missing is the last killer pass.

“He wants us to dictate the game from behind and it’s how we respond to the pressure that’s coming on us to create spaces and get our No 10 on the ball, the midfielders on the ball bring.

“We have to take risks, but as long as we’re in the right positions, we can get out.”

The playmakers Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard had almost twice as many ball contacts in the 0-1 defeat against Tottenham as in the 3-3 in Liverpool.

But Trossard, who scored three goals and was also denied by Alisson at Anfield, didn’t get a glimpse of goal on Saturday.

Webster will draw good signs from the Spurs game and enjoys working with De Zerbi.

He said: “He’s been really good so far. He’s very passionate, which is good, you want that.

“He’s getting his message across and the relationship he’s already built with all of us is brilliant.” Adam Webster faces a new challenge at Brighton with De Zerbi
