Adam Woodyatt refused to make June Brown a Dame despite EastEnders campaign

EastEnders’ Adam Woodyatt was one of the first cast members of former soap legend June Brown to pay tribute to the actress, who has played the fan-favorite Dot Cotton since 1985.

Adam Woodyatt paid tribute to the ultimate EastEnders icon, June Brown, who played the much-loved character Dot Cotton and has died aged 95.
The fellow EastEnders legend, who has played Ian Beale on the soap since 1985, was the first actor to be honored in June.
On Instagram, he shared a snap of the star figure and sitting on the stairs, and shared his heartbreak that June was never made a Dame before she passed away, despite the odds. his efforts and the rest of the cast.
He wrote: “I am speechless, which June never has. So many memories, so much joy. Merely and simply an extraordinary woman with an incredible life and career. To my surprise, I was fortunate enough to share a small portion of it.
“They never made you Dame (we tried), but to me you will always be Dame Brown.”

June was rated MBE for services to drama and charity at Buckingham Palace in 2008.
She proudly showed off her honor outside the royal family after the ceremony and the following June was shortlisted for the 2022 New Year’s honor to be recognized as an OBE.
An EastEnders spokesman confirmed June’s death on Monday, stating: “We are deeply saddened to announce that June Brown, our beloved OBE, MBE, has sadly passed away on last night.
“There aren’t enough words to describe how much June is loved and cherished by everyone at EastEnders, her loving warmth, wit and wonderful sense of humor will never be forgotten.

“June has created one of the most iconic characters in Dot Cotton, not only in soap but also on British television, and has appeared in 2,884 episodes, June’s remarkable performances have created. So some of EastEnders’ best moments.
“We send all of our love and deepest sympathies to June’s family and friends. A very bright light went out at EastEnders today but we will all raise a glass of sweet sherry during the day. June’s memory.
“Rest in peace, our dearest June. You will never be forgotten.”
Danny Dyer was also one of the first members of EastEnders to express gratitude to the actress, posting a snap of them together on the soap set via Instagram.

Gillian Taylforth, who plays Kathy Beale in the soap, said: “I am heartbroken by this news.
“June Brown OBE, MBE, is an amazing woman and a truly amazing actress. I’ve shared many scenes with her over the years and she has always been someone I admire and love. Learn.
“There will never be another June Brown and I’m sending all my love to her family.”
