Adele shares her jock itch diagnosis on stage

Adele returned to the concert stage this weekend on the mend after an unexpected illness.
At the performance of her extended play on Saturday nightWeekends with AdeleWhile in Las Vegas, the 16-time Grammy winner revealed that she was recently diagnosed with a fungal infection called “jock itch” after performing for an extended period under hot stage lights.
“You know what my doctor gave me? It’s a bit gross but I never knew it existed,” Adele told the crowd, as seen in videos shared on social media. “Of course I wear spanx to my shows so it stays in and fits me and I sweat a lot and it doesn’t go away. So basically I’m just sitting in my own sweat. So my doctor prescribed jock itch for me [cream].”
Also known as Tinea CrurisJock itch is a condition similar to ringworm and athlete’s foot that causes an itchy and stinging rash on the skin, typically on the groin and inner thighs. It is particularly common in male athletes.
Moments later Adele – who is currently dating an NBA agent Rich Paul joked about the similarities between the phrase “jock itch” and Denver Nuggets player Nikola Jokić, whose last name is pronounced similarly.
“Sounds like I’m a big Nuggets fan there, doesn’t it?” She quipped, adding, “It looks like I’m an athlete so I have to squirt.” [the cream] on myself. I don’t know why the hell I just told you that.”
Weekends With Adele premiered at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace last fall excellent reviews. The tickets for the first 34 performances of the show were sold out just a few days after they went on sale.
In March, Adele announced plans to extend the residency for a further 34 shows and to film the concert. Her performance at Caesars Palace is currently scheduled through November 4th.
