Adil Ray says PM’s position ‘all could change’ in the next few hours

Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray has said that Boris Johnson is “moving on” but that “could all change” in the next few hours.

culminating in the red carpet at the Television and Radio Industry Club Awards (Tric), the 48-year-old said the position of Prime Minister could deteriorate even before the end of the event on Wednesday at Grosvenor House, London.

ITV’s Good Morning Britain (GMB) was nominated in the multi-channel news category at the awards ceremony and Ray attended with co-hosts Ranvir Singh and Charlotte Hawkins.

Speaking of their nod, Ray told the PA news agency: “It’s been a huge year in terms of news. Even for a nomination, there is some great competition there. But it’s nice to be here and it’s nice to know the show is so highly rated.”

Asked about the pressure on the Prime Minister to step down, he added: “Even so, I don’t think we’ve ever had a situation like this where a leader is suffering. It was a fairly new experience.

“You listen to some old journalists who have been in the game for a long time. They have yet to see anything like this.

“This is a guy holding on, and he’s trying to hold on at the moment, to be fair. But who knows? By the time we leave here, that could all change.”

Singh joked that the news cycle around the Prime Minister “helps us work so that’s a great thing”.

She added: “Just because the news is on everyone’s agenda, everyone talks about it. That’s what we develop.

“It means people are talking about what we care about. That’s great for us.”

Fearne Cotton, whose Happy Place podcast was nominated for podcast of the year at the Tric Awards, said it’s a “lovely feeling” to receive a nod for something she’s independently created. .

The 40-year-old is a regular face on the BBC, presenting Top of the Pops, the TV show Red Nose Day and her own Radio 1 show, before returning to start her podcast.

She said: “There is no doubt because this is an idea that we had a long time ago, we have worked very hard for many years. And it has a very slow build momentum. It’s a really lovely feeling to know that it’s ours and that people love it. It is the best.”

When asked about her perfect guest, she replied: “I guess Madonna would be scary. I interviewed her once but not for an hour, which is obviously a very different thing to have one person for so long. I think Madonna will be fine. “

Cotton also suggests she might consider returning to radio if the project is right.

She said, “It is possible. I love what I do now. If the right thing comes to me, I will, but I have to really want to.

“Happy Place is a full-time job, with festivals and books and everything else we’re doing. We will see. “
