A DECISION on plans to build nearly 200 new homes on a dealership lot will be made next week.
The Adur Borough Council Planning Committee will consider developer Shoreham Brighton Road Limited’s application to use Frosts Cars’ Brighton Road site for a mix of 80 one-bedroom and 103 two-bedroom apartments with commercial premises.
The plans originally submitted in August 2021 were supplemented this year by the client with a modified design of the ground floor.
The developer also made a U-turn from its original plan of not including affordable housing in the program, saying 30 percent of the housing will be affordable.
This would mean at least 55 apartments, with an ownership split of 25 percent shared ownership and 75 percent rental housing.

According to planning documents, the combined factors of Homes England’s new access to grants, according to discussions with a housing association, combined with “reducing risk for the developer” would help the project “remain financially viable”. Provision of affordable housing targeted by the local authority.
The proposed development would consist of apartment blocks ranging in height from five to nine stories, underground parking and raised decks, new freeway access, flood control, improved drainage infrastructure and landscaping.
Given the “great” public interest in the plan, the council encouraged the developer to extend the public consultation period beyond the plans and increase the number of open houses over the original proposal.
The consultation period ended on September 12th.
The Planning Committee will consider the application at its meeting on Wednesday 28 September from 7pm at the Shoreham Centre.
