Pep Guardiola has compared Manchester City’s title win to a tennis player winning a tournament.
ity will claim their fourth Premier League crown in five seasons if they can win their last three games against Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa.
However, Guardiola believes the pressure of the situation means these could be the toughest games to win.
The City boss said: “The most difficult service in tennis is the service you have to give to become champion and it’s quite similar to the position we’re in.
“We need six or seven points to become champions and those will be the more difficult ones.
“For those away games against Wolves and West Ham we have to do our best to do that.”
City bounced back from their agonizing Champions League semi-final defeat at Real Madrid last week by beating Newcastle 5-0 on Sunday.
Guardiola believes his side’s misfortunes at the Bernabeu, where City had led by a total of two added-time goals only to lose in extra time, can now spur on his players.
He said: “It was so hard, so hard what we lived in Madrid but the only chance we have to be champions is to go back and tell the players don’t forget what we’re in lived in Madrid.
“Now is the moment not to forget it. Be aware of how difficult everything is and try step by step – three more points, three more points, then three more points to become champion.”
Guardiola has faced criticism since City’s capitulation in Madrid, including from former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.
The Frenchman, who works as a pundit, suggested City lack leadership and personality on the pitch as Guardiola wants to be the sole leader himself.
Guardiola told a press conference ahead of the trip to Molineux on Wednesday: ‘I don’t want a personality? I don’t agree, Patrice. I need personalities and good players to play on the pitch.
“I’ve had nice, incredible players in my past as a manager at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and here. I could give a good list in terms of her personality and character. Most of them have won World Cups, European Championships, Champions Leagues and Leagues.
“Maybe Evra is right or maybe he’ll make a good offer to come back to Manchester United to work there. Maybe now is a good chance.
“Well Patrice – if we were together I would show you the personality and character of my players that we have right now, absolutely.”
