Air ambulance rushes to fairgrounds as child injured in ‘suspected driving disruption’

An air ambulance rushed to a fairground after a child was injured in a suspected disruption to driving.
Ambulance services were called to Platt Fields Park in Fallowfield, South Manchester, on Sunday after the child was reportedly slightly injured.
Spectators watched as it landed on a lawn next to the fairgrounds, whose run has been extended through May 2.
Greater Manchester Police vehicles and paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service were also called to the incident.
Manchester City Council confirmed one child suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics. The ride in question was also closed all day Monday for inspections to be carried out by an independent inspector commissioned by the council.
The ride will be visited again on Tuesday for further checks, the reports Manchester evening news.

It is understood that following a routine inspection in March, the ride was recently certified as meeting safety standards and was also insured.
A spokesman for Manchester City Council said: “The council was made aware of an incident at a fairground in Platt Fields Park which resulted in an emergency call. Due to a suspected malfunction, a child was slightly injured and was examined on site by the rescue service.
“The ride in question was closed throughout Monday 18 April to allow for additional checks to be carried out by an independent inspector.

The Council will revisit the ride on Tuesday April 19 to receive further assurances that the ride is safe to operate.”
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two fire engines from Moss Side and Withington had visited Platt Fields Park around 4.15pm on Sunday afternoon. More information about the nature of the incident and any injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Greater Manchester Police, North West Air Ambulance Charity and the exhibition operator have all been contacted for more information.
