Red pandas are all the rage at the moment, it seems, as developer Cosmic Gatto – a professional animator who has worked with DreamWorks Studio Animator – introduced Aka, an open-world game where you search for “inner peace”. .
You play as Aka, a retired Red Panda soldier who has decided to settle down on a small island after the end of the war. Here he must locate the spirits that inhabit the land and help them recover their souls by ending their lives.
The game is a mix of open-world exploration, life and farming simulation, and quest-based adventure, all with a strong focus on nature. Some of the locations and features, like the giant capybara, Aka’s bearded companion, and the water train, are all reminiscent of a beautiful Studio Ghibli film. This train in particular is straight out of Spirited Away!
The trailer above features Pine Tree Island, an island inspired by southwest France, featuring a European landscape of lush fields and plenty of ivy-covered ruins. The game’s Steam page also describes a handful of other islands – Maple Tree Island, inspired by Canada; Bamboo Island, which will take on an East Asian look; and Palm Tree Island, which visually takes us to South Asia and South America.
These are just some of the things you can expect to find on these islands, courtesy of publisher Neowiz:
– Exploring and decorating the islands through crafting and farming.
– A wide variety of mini-games.
– Peaceful activities like napping, looking at a cloud, swimming and more.
– Help the islanders by interacting with them and helping them solve their problems.
Players can control Aka and help him grow crops, flowers and vegetables in a permaculture-inspired system. Garden design and wildlife play a role in what plants you grow, how you grow them, and how successful you are. You’ll also need to build a shelter, clothes, and items for the quests you’ll have to undertake to make friends and help ghosts. The game is also non-linear, and you can complete many of the game’s quests in any order you like.
But don’t worry if this all sounds like hard work, there are plenty of ways to take a break – we do did Say you could sleep on the giant capybara, right?
Aka will be coming to the Switch eShop sometime this year. do you pick it up Let us know, or just take some time to rave about how adorable this game looks.
