Alabama shooting: At least one dead and others injured after gunman opened fire on church

One person has died and others were injured after multiple shots were fired at a church in Alabama, it is reported.

The shooting took place at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, killing three people, police said.

Around 6:15 p.m. local time, emergency services were called to the church and people were quickly evacuated from the building.

The incident happened during a “boomers potluck” dinner that started at 5 p.m. at the church, which is in a quiet and affluent neighborhood.

Police said the scene is still active, but there are reports the suspected gunman is now in custody.

Crime scene pictures show a huge police presence at the church and the road closed.

It’s the latest shooting incident in the United States, where debate is raging over the availability of guns to the public.
